This article explains where mobile app permissions are set, how the company and user levels work together, and what each app permission does.

Two places to set app permissions

App permissions decide which features a person sees in the Sharry mobile app. They are set in two places:

  • On the company — open Companies, pick the company, open the Permissions tab and use the toggles under Permissions for App users. This decides which app permissions are available to everyone in that company and its sub-companies.
  • On the user — open People, pick the user, open the Permissions tab and use the toggles under Mobile App Permissions. This decides what that person actually has.

A person can only have an app permission that their company has. If the permission is switched off on the company (or on any company above it), it is off for the person too, and the toggle is not shown on their profile.

Permissions that follow from access, not from a toggle

Access Parking and Use Mobile Badges can only be switched on the company. For a person they follow from what you assign under Access:

  • Assigning an Access role (door access) enables building access in the app.
  • Assigning a parking Access role enables parking in the app.
  • Allowing a person to generate a mobile badge enables Use Mobile Badges for them; building access must be enabled first.

Default permissions for new users

Every building has a set of default app permissions, configured by Sharry. A new user receives them when the account is created (in PortalWX, through SCIM, or through self-registration) and again when the user is verified. If a user is set to Forbidden, the default permissions are removed. There are no separate defaults per company.

When you import people from a CSV file, the app permissions come from the columns in the file: a column set to "no" switches that permission off for that person.

App permissions and PortalWX permissions are separate

Several features exist in both the app and PortalWX, and each side has its own toggle. Send Guestpass under Mobile App Permissions lets a person invite guests from the app; Send Guestpass under PortalWX Permissions lets them do it from PortalWX. Switching on one does not switch on the other.
